ACC Awarded by NASSIT for Compliance to Statutory Regulations for 2019 Financial Year

 Tuesday 29th October, 2019.

The Anti-Corruption Commission was on Friday 25th October, 2019 presented with a compliance award for fully complying with the provisions of the NASSIT Act No.5 of July 2001; by the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT), at the Radison Blu Mamy Yoko Hotel in Freetown.

NASSIT was established by an Act of Parliament in 2001 to administer Sierra Leone's National Pension's Scheme-- provide retirement and other benefits to meet the contingency needs for workers and their dependents. One of the core functions of the Trust is the collection and recording of contributions by institutions. However, over the years, some institutions have been delinquent or non-compliant in meeting their statutory obligations to NASSIT. This has affected the Return on Capital Employed (ROCE) and further stifled the operations of the Trust.

Notwithstanding, a number of institutions have been highly compliant in meeting their statutory obligations to the trust. As a goodwill gesture and motivating strategy, this awards scheme introduced by NASSIT is desirous to acknowledging and celebrating institutions who have become a bastion of efficiency and compliance in meeting their obligations to the trust.

The award was presented to ACC’s head of Financial Investigations, Mr. Osman Rahman Kamara, on behalf of the Commission. Speaking after receiving the award, Mr. Kamara expressed unprecedented delight for the recognition award presented to ACC for meeting its obligations to the trust. “In Law, there is a popular maxim which states that “he who comes to equity must come with clean hands”, so, as a law enforcement institution that frowns at all forms of financial crimes, we accept this recognition from NASSIT in good faith. We will continue to meet our obligations to the trust as mandated by law; and admonish other defaulting institutions to do same”, he said.
